She’s only 17, but Lorde’s song “Royals” has been nominated for three Grammies– Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and the Album the song is on is nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album (Pure Heroin). She is a New Zealand singer-songwriter, birth name of Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor, with a well-known poet for a mother (Sonja Yelich). Her father is a civil engineer. She began writing and singing songs when she was 13. Pure Heroin is her debut album which came out last September.
I’m not one for pop music, but I have to admit when a friend sent me the Florida State University a cappella group, AcaBelles’, version of her song “Royals,” I couldn’t get it out of my head. Truly a tour de force. The Grammies are on January 26.
