A vertical dance troupe that dances on sides of buildings and mountains?! The dance troupe Bandaloop (inspired in part by rock climbing and rappeling), makes it look incredibly easy, but because the dancers are constantly engaging with gravity, they need to be incredibly fit. Founded by Amelia Rudolph in 1991, Bandaloop has performed all over the world, on high rises and cliffs (site-specific choreography), stunning audiences everywhere.
There is something magically evocative about the visual of humans flying and defying gravity, about seemingly effortless choreography in the vertical places, natural and constructed, where humans are usually not so adept and artful. Truly, this is aerial dance above and beyond.
