Artist Friday: Cal Lane

Cal Lane is a remarkable young artist who takes the raw ruggedness of steel and iron and the delicateness and sensitivity of lace, combining a male material with a feminine one, to create very provocative and seductive sculptures. She calls her pieces “industrial doilies.”

I have included some of her work below, but you will need to explore her own website: http://www.callane.com/works.html# I would be very interested in any of your reactions.

Her next show, “Lace in Translation,”  an Installation at the The Design Center at Philadelphia University will open September 24. http://laceintranslation.com/about/cal-lane

And beginning in October, she will start her “Montenegro Project” where she will cut into a 62 foot submarine in Tivat, Montenegro.

  1. I always love it when someone can show me the world in a new way.
