Artist Friday: Cal Lane

Cal Lane is a remarkable young artist who takes the raw ruggedness of steel and iron and the delicateness and sensitivity of lace, combining a male material with a feminine one, to create very provocative and seductive sculptures. She calls her pieces “industrial doilies.”

I have included some of her work below, but you will need to explore her own website: I would be very interested in any of your reactions.

Her next show, “Lace in Translation,”  an Installation at the The Design Center at Philadelphia University will open September 24.

And beginning in October, she will start her “Montenegro Project” where she will cut into a 62 foot submarine in Tivat, Montenegro.

  1. I always love it when someone can show me the world in a new way.
